Life is a beach in Santa Monica, beautiful ocean properties that are right next to where things are happening. You can get a home right on PCH, watch the waves from the deck of your home and be lulled to sleep by the rolling waves. Purchasing real estate in Santa Monica is like buying into a different way of life, downtown is always buzzing with activity, people shop from the 3rd street promenade to the boutiques on main street or maybe grab something to eat at one of the cafe's on Montana, but you can't beat the view at Surf View Cafe which is right on Santa Monica Pier.

The city of Santa Monica has beautiful sunny skies three hundred and twenty-five days each year which is another great reason to purchase real estate in Santa Monica as you will be able to enjoy the beautiful surroundings pretty much all year round.

A few months out of the year Santa Monica has a marine layer in the morning, because it sits in the large Santa Monica Bay which experiences the changes in temperature and current changes of the ocean.

Santa Monica's north side was at one time part of Rancho San Vicente y Santa Monica and also Rancho Boca de Santa Monica, which was a large fast area of undeveloped real estate.

A prominent family with a name still around today, the Sepulveda's, sold almost forty thousand acres of real estate for fifty four thousand in eighteen seventy two, to a Colonel named Robert A. Baker and his wife, Arcadia, which was the daughter of Juan Bandini, a wealthy and influential Californian and was the widow of Abel Stearns who was once the wealthiest man in Los Angeles.

John P. Jones a senator from Nevada bought half of Baker's real estate in eighteen seventy four.

The very first lots of real estate in Santa Monica were sold on July fifteenth eighteen seventy five.

Santa Monica residents voted to incorporate the city on November thirtieth, eighteen eighty six.

The first town hall was a small brick building built in eighteen seventy three, which was later turned into a beer hall, and is the oldest building in Santa Monica.

The sea port of was located in Santa Monica because of the ease of shipping by sea and railroad, and because the area had plenty of room for the expanding real estate market.

The Wharf was constructed in eighteen ninety three at the north end of Santa Monica to handle large ships and was named Port Los Angeles.

The current Port of Los Angeles which is located in San Pedro Bay, was chosen by Congress in eighteen ninety seven. This allowed Santa Monica to maintain the scenic charm we all enjoy today.
Santa Monica Canyon rail line was sold off to the Pacific Electric Railroad, which ran the line from eighteen ninety one to nineteen thirty-three.

Real estate in the southwest part of Santa Monica once belonged to the Talamantes and Machado families.

Nancy Lucas acquired eight hundred and sixty-one acres of Santa Monica Real Estate in eighteen seventy-four for eleven thousand dollars.

She had her sons farm the property one hundred acres of real estate was sold to a Mr. W.D. Vawter in eighteen eighty four.

A Mr. Abbott Kinney procured the deed to the coastal strip in eighteen ninety five, then gave the area it's name, Ocean Park, which turned out to be his first amusement park and also his first residential project. The Ocean Park Casino was built with a race track and golf course.

Santa Monica has been considered a wonderful resort town for some time because of the great climate and it's oceanside locale.

Some say Santa Monica was named after Saint Monica of Hippo, because Spaniards visited her for the first time on feast day.

Nowadays Santa Monica is known for a variety of things like gorgeous real estate an active surf community and an interest in politics.

Santa Monica has miles of beautiful beaches with bike paths that hug the sand beginning in Santa Monica and on through venice and the Marina.

Amusement piers were very popular in the early 1900', they made five for Santa Monica, one in Venice and more down the coast.

The Santa Monica Pier built in 1909 is the last one that remains with us today.

Santa Monica's population more than doubled from fifteen thousand to thirty two thousand in the 1920s as the area saw another huge real estate boom.

The Critterion Theater and Miramar Hotel were built in the 20's.
Volleyball was seen on the beaches of Santa Monica for the first time.

We can thank Will Rogers for donating the real estate for the State Park, State Beach and Historic Park that Santa Monica residents enjoy each day.

The Civic Auditorium was built in nineteen fifty-eight where many famous musicians have played for the people of Santa Monica.

When the fitness craze hit in the seventies  a Mr. Joe Gold began opening World Gym's, Jane Fonda opened an aerobic studio as well.

In the eighties, the Santa Monica Pier was nearly brought down in the ocean by huge storms.

The time money and effort put forth to repair the pier was well worth it as the pier remains a landmark of Santa Monica. Santa Monica will always remain as a Jewel by the Sea.
