Real Estate in El Segundo has variety and that is the spice of life. El Segundo means the second in spanish. The city was name given as it was home to the Standard Oil Company’s second refinery. El Segundo has a small town feel even though it is home to twelve fortune five hundred companies. There is an Air Force Base and a flourishing Aerospace industry in El Segundo.

The school district in El Segundo is one of the top in the state. The Adopt a Class program was started here and the El Segundo Education Foundation has provided equipment and assistance to all the schools in the Area. In El Segundo there is an extensive sports program that includes girls and boys of all ages with expert training in softball, baseball, football, basketball, soccer, track, hockey, skateboarding and even more. In nineteen eighty-six El Segundo became world champions in American Legion baseball. The hardworking Coach John Stevenson has trained countless world ranked athletes, one of them being El Segundo local George Brett. The Lakers, Kings and Stars all call El Segundo home.

El Segundo has been home for design and construction of many famous planes. More than half of the vehicles and satellites in space were design and/or constructed in El Segundo. El Segundo is also home to many celebrities in the entertainment industry, from actors to writers to directors.

Some interesting historical tidbits about El Segundo, before the city was incorporated in nineteen seventeen it was part of the rancho Sausal Redondo which means ranch of the Round Clump of Willows, which was about twenty five thousand acres and was mostly comprised of wheat and barley with cattle and sheep grazing happily.

In nineteen eleven, Standard Oil surveyed the area to see if it was a viable location for an oil refinery. The refinery needed to be close enough to the ocean so the tankers would have easy access and be cheap land that was close enough to the working population. They purchased eight hundred and forty acres of land, build a refinery and had it running in less than six months, and less than six years later El Segundo was incorporated.

In the twenties, the Los Angeles municipal airport was planned and constructed and in the fifties Southern California Edison procured a forty-three acre site for a large electrical generation station. The Los Angeles International Airport opened officially in nineteen thirty and had a large role in making El Segundo an aerospace authority. Hughes Aircraft, Northrop, Douglas Aircraft, and Rockwell all moved to El Segundo in the forties and fifties. These aircraft companies would transitioned into the defense and aerospace industries. In the sixties the Aerospace Corporation awarded El Segundo the title Aerospace Capital of the World. The population of El Segundo has leveled off at about 17,000 residents, enabling the city to preserve that small town intimacy and charm. The rest of course is history, come be a part of it!
